Like thousands of women in America, breast cancer has directly impacted and changed mine and my family's lives irrevocably. In 2019 at the age of 56, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and then two years later in 2021 at the age of 38, I followed closely in her footsteps and discovered I had stage II, PR & ER +, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and that I also carried the BRCA2 gene. What followed my diagnosis was a year-long battle that consisted of 16 rounds of chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy with the start of immediate reconstruction, 25 rounds of radiation and a preventative hysterectomy.
Pensacola has been my home since I was three years old and because of my roots here and my own experience with breast cancer, I saw the need for a space in the community where breast cancer patients and their families can have easier access to many of the products they may need during the different stages of treatment and recovery. The Boobie Boutique was conceived from a time in my life that was painful, frightening, and difficult, but I’m grateful that what I endured has also given me a deeper appreciation for life and a mission to help others facing similar challenges. TBB is a place where connections can grow, stories can be exchanged, support and encouragement can be offered and most importantly, where hope can be shared.
I’d like to dedicate The Boobie Boutique to God, through Him all things are possible, to my mother (with her indomitable and courageous spirit), to my children and their dad (these three have cheered me on, made me laugh, & taken care of me when I wasn’t able to take care of myself) and to all of the fighters and survivors out there who have fought and who are fighting breast cancer. Breast cancer can be a scary and lonely experience, but you're not alone. Many of you might be asking yourselves, “What now?” I don’t have an easy answer to that, but I will start by saying, we fight together and we live so much more bravely and authentically because of it.
